My favorite kind of movie (or book for that matter) is one that makes you feel like you are living the life of its characters. This is accomplished using infrequent cuts, realistic writing, and careful choices about what information is presented to the viewer. War of the Worlds (2005) is such a movie.
But this is a very gruesome and dismal movie. This makes Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events look like "The Littlest Elf". This is not a movie for children or people who like to sleep at night.
