UALR Photos

Introduction

Having poked fun at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for the artwork that adorns the fine-arts building, I thought I would also post a page that highlights some of the things they got right, especially the fountains and the ETAS building.

Fountains

There are three fountains on the UALR campus.

Cooper Fountain Plaza

This fountain sits basically in the center of campus. It contributes enormously to the surroundings. When I was young, this fountain was just a trickle of water, but they have re-done the whole thing. Now it is huge jets of water that rise high into the air. They also created an interesting walkway that goes over the pool of water at the base. It is all very nice.

The column of failed industryThe column of failed industry

This is an interesting fountain. It is still just a steady stream of water that falls from the top of this old column of concrete. My wife thinks it is ugly, but I actually like it. It does remind me of an abandoned industrial plant, but I think that is pretty cool.

The Forum The Forum from above

I like the Roman Forum atmosphere that pervades the administration building entrance. But the best thing about this fountain is what it does at night. There are colored light bulbs under the water that shine a moving distorted light up on the ceiling and columns. You should check it out.

ETAS

The ETAS building was obviously built for engineers. Everything in its design communicates strength and stability. I think it is an excellent piece of work.
