Landmarkism

Landmarkism is the common belief among Missionary Baptist churches that only churches that practice believer’s immersion are true churches of God. This concept was the subject of much discussion in the ninteenth century, especially after J. M. Pendleton published a tract entitled “An Old Landmark Reset,” from which the movement got its name.

I offer here the text of the original tract and my own critique of the tract and of the movement in general.
